Mª Coronada Fernández-Calderón is Research Investigator at Biomedical Research Networking Center in Bioengineering, Biomaterials and Nanomedicine (CIBER-BBN) and Associate Professor of the Biomedical Sciences Departament at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Extremadura. She has participated in large local and international projects funded through public and private entities. She is author or co-author of several scientific papers and national and international conference communications in the field of Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases, Microbial Biofilms, Biomaterials, Medical Devices. Concerning her teaching activity, she has participated in the edition of books of microbiology and infectious diseases and teaching innovation projects.

Her research activity is mainly focused on biofilm-based healthcare-associated infections and the strategies to detect and prevent the development of microbial biofilms in biomaterials for medical devices. She also serves as referee for several international journals of the American Society for Microbiology.

After completion of his postdoctoral training at University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, Dr. Gautam Sethi joined Department of Pharmacology, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore in 2008 as an Assistant Professor and was promoted to Associate Professor in 2015. The focus of his research over the past few years has been to elucidate the mechanism (s) of activation of oncogenic transcription factors such as NF-kB/STAT3 by carcinogens and inflammatory agents and the identification of novel inhibitors of these proteins for prevention of and therapy for cancer. The findings of his research work have so far resulted in more than two hundred scientific publications in high impact factor peer reviewed journals (with h index = 70) and several international awards. He currently serves as an Academic Editor for PLOS, editorial board member of Scientific Reports, Pharmacological Research, BMC Cancer, Frontiers in Pharmacology, Frontiers in Oncology, Journal of Natural Products in Cancer Prevention and Therapy, and ad-hoc reviewer for several other prestigious international journals.

Thus, these agents have potential treatment properties for numerous inflammatory diseases, including cancer and are not toxic. Moreover, the results his research work have so far resulted in more than hundred scientific publications in high impact factor peer reviewed journals and several international research awards.

Aidy Ali is a Professor of mechanical Engineering at National Defence University of Malaysia (UPNM). He received his first degree in Mechanical Engineering from Universiti Putra Malaysia, 1999. He then pursued his Ph.D degree in Year 2003 research on Improving Fatigue Life of Aircraft Components By Using Surface Engineering at Sheffield University, UK. He was awarded a Ph.D degree in March 2006. His expertise is related to mechanical Fatigue, Fracture of materials, Failure assessment, Failure prevention analysis, Reliability engineering prediction and Crash analysis. H index is 19. He is working on fracture of bone and knee implant study in his recent projects.

Dr. Zhiwei Song obtained his Ph.D. degree in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan where he studied plant lectins and protein glycosylation in cancer cells. His post-doc work was completed in the Biology Department at MIT where he studied genetic control of apoptosis. In 2002, Dr. Song moved to Singapore. Now he is a Principal Scientist at the Bioprocessing Technology Institute (BTI) of A*STAR. His research has been focused on protein glycosylation, glycoengineering of CHO cells, production of recombinant antibodies using CHO cells and apoptotic cell death in cultured mammalian cells.

Dr Abbas Amini is an associate lecturer, a registered member of Western Sydney University graduate supervisory board at the School of Computing, Engineering and Mathematics since January 2014, and the member of Work Health and Safety Committee of the same university. Before joining the Western Sydney University, he had conducted research with other Australian universities and CSIRO for five years, as a postdoctoral research fellow at Monash University and Deakin University, and as a senior research fellow at the University of Melbourne. His fine outcomes have been presented in high impact factor journals, e.g., Nature publication group. Abbas started his teaching, industrial and scientific journey from obtaining an associate’s degree in mathematics from Dastgheib Teacher College, MSc and BSc in mechanical engineering from Sharif University of Technology, and PhD in both nanotechnology and mechanical engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He has also updated himself by several Australian and Canadian nationally recognized professional certificates and diplomas, e.g., FULT (Foundations of University Learning and Teaching form Western Sydney University), TAE, WHS, CNC etc, since then. With his intense schedule, he has been extensively involved in teaching for many years, and worked in industry, e.g., Magna Powertrain, Toronto, Canada, as a professional engineer and industrial designer for a period of six years. Dr Amini is a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), an active reviewer for and editor of several ISI journals, and a committee member of 12 international conferences to-date, including the co-chair of 8th International Conference of ICCAE 2016, Melbourne, Australia, Mar. 3-4, 2016.

Dr Amini's research focus in particular covers a wide range of multidisciplinary aspects: indentation methods, shape memory alloys, water treatment, drug delivery systems, piezoelectric materials, biomedical materials, graphene, graphane, CNTs, biodegradable polymeric nano-composites, TiO2, ZnO, environmental sustainability and water efficiency, experimental analysis, multi-scale (nano to macro) modelling of multi-physics phenomena, phase transition, mechanics of materials, fabrication of modern composites, manufacturing, offshore naval structures, and ship design.

Dr. Bharat Bhushan is an Ohio Eminent Scholar and the Howard D. Winbigler Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. Dr. Bhushan came to OSU in 1991 after a 15-year career in industry, working primarily for IBM Almaden Research Center. A professor with diverse interests, Dr. Bhushan’s works in biomimetic interface science, surface engineering, nanotribology, and materials research. His research has focused on scanning probe techniques in the interdisciplinary areas of bio/nanotribology, bio/nanomechanics and bio/nanomaterials characterization and applications to bio/nanotechnology, and biomimetics. Dr. Bhushan spent the 2013-2014 year working as an ASME Science Fellow in Congress. His work there focused on policy and funding of various scientific government agencies, setting science and engineering goals for the country, and STEM education. Dr. Bhushan is a prolific author (h-index – 76+; ISI Highly Cited Researcher in Materials Science since 2007 and in Biology and Biochemistry since 2013; ISI Top 5% Cited Authors for Journals in Chemistry since 2011), influencing many different fields. He has authored 8 scientific books, 90+ handbook chapters, nearly 900 scientific papers, and 60+ scientific reports. He has also edited 50+ books and holds 20 U.S. and foreign patents.

Joo L. Ong’s primary research interests focus on the regeneration of bone for large critical sized-defects, surface modifications and characterization of the implant biomaterials for dental and orthopedic applications, modification of tissue-engineered ceramic scaffolds, protein-biomaterials interactions and cell-biomaterial interactions in vitro and in vivo using small and large animal models. Dr. Ong is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering. He is also the Associate Editor for the Journal of Biomedical Materials Research, Part B. His publication portfolio includes two books (one edited), 16 book chapters, and 146 peer-reviewed journal publications. He has four issued patents from his research work and one pending patent filed with the US Patent Office

Hicham Fenniri is the Director of the SupramolecularNanoscale Assembly program at the NRC National Institute for Nanotechnology (Canada’s Government Laboratory), and is Professor of Chemistry and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, Canada. Dr. Fenniri has achieved international recognition as a leader in the areas nanomedicine, nanotechnology, biomedical engineering, and materials sciences. His groupworks at the forefront of basic and applied nanosciences, in collaboration with various academic institutions, federal laboratories, and with the private sector.Dr. Fenniri’s contributions appeared in over 130 publications, 8 patents, and over 320 contributed national and international conference papers. Dr. Fenniri’s work was also presented in over 130 invited distinguished lectures, colloquiaand seminars around the globe. His research programs are supported by the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada, Alberta Advanced Education and Technology, the US National Institutes of Health, The National Research Council of Canada, the University of Alberta, and several private, provincial and federal funding organizations.

Professor Abraham Ogwu is a Fellow of the Institute of Physics (FinstP) and Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (FIMMM). He served on the Fellowship election panel of the institute of physics (2007-2011) in the materials physics section. He has held previous academic appointments at the School of Materials, University of Manchester, England and the School of Engineering, University of Ulster, Northern Ireland and in overseas universities before joining the University of the West of Scotland in 2002 as Professor of Thin Film devices, Nanotechnology and Biomaterials. He was on leave of absence between 2008-2010 as Rector/Vice-Chancellor of an African government owned University of Science and Technology, which was admitted to membership of the association of commonwealth universities during his tenure. I was a member of the governing council (court) of the former University of Paisley (now UWS) and the policy and resources committee of the institution from 2005 to 2008. I was an Academic staff and Warden of the University residences at the University of Ulster, Northern Ireland, U.K. from 1999-2002 and principal investigator at then Northern Ireland nanotechnology centre.. I was a visiting scientist at the University of Toronto, Canada in 1998, hosted by Professor Tom Coyle in Materials Science and Engineering. I was a visiting Professor at the Surface Engineering group, Mechanical Engineering Department, University of Aveiro, Portugal in 2003, hosted by the late Professor Jose Gracio and at the Technical University of Lodz, Poland, hosted by Professor Stanislaw Mitura in 2005. I set up and led the only Materials 2008 RAE unit of assessment submission in Scotland, based in UWS, which was ranked 12/20 in the U.K. I am currently on the Editorial board of four Materials Science journals including the international Journal of molecular engineering. I have been a keynote speaker, member of the scientific and organising committee of major conferences in Nano/biomaterials in the U.K, Europe and Asia. I review research funding applications in the U.K. (EPSRC), Canada (MITACS) and for other overseas governments. I am regularly invited as external assessor for Professorship/Readership appointment in U.K universities (Russell group and post-92) and overseas. I have been a PhD examiner for Universities in Europe, Asia and Australia. In the fields of materials science and engineering/applied physics.
